Amy and her daughter created a little warm spot in my heart the day of their session. They enjoy the beach, so it was only natural we met in La Jolla Cove to photograph. A few seals on the beach and waves chasing our toes made for a lot of giggles. Wishing these two a very merry everything this holiday season!

It's amazing that tomorrow is December 1st! Where have the last 11 months gone? The holiday spirit was definitely present during the mini sessions this year. We gathered in a park near downtown San Diego and rolled out a bunch of fun for these families. Extra kudos to my new assistant (and mentee) Christian!

I'm over the moon about Marisa and Scott's holiday portraits. They ooze with so much lovey dovey goodness! Being that Marisa is a fellow photographer herself, I was honored to get her on the other side of the lens.
The holidays are certainly upon us and I've been dying to share more of these family photographs. Jada and Jud have one of the cutest baby boys I've ever seen. His giggles are contagious! Wishing this family the happiest of holidays ahead!
Mini portrait sessions on Easter Sunday were such a success! I had a handful of families show up and we had a great time in the park. Here's a few highlights:
It was a pretty chilly day back on the east coast when we held our mini photo session with 3 lovely families. We weren't blessed with the snow covered grounds but it was still a fun working with the little ones and their parents. Everyone was such a sport in the 15 degree weather! (Thank goodness they were only mini sessions. I'm not sure we could have handled it much longer!)
This family has such a special place in my heart. I can't believe it was almost 10 years ago when I met Angela and Matt to photograph their wedding in Laguna Beach. Now they have four beautiful kids. It's been awesome watching them move around the country, grow and love as a family. Over the holidays they made their way down to the southern California area from Oregon. I was honored that they drove 2 hours for our photo session on the beach the morning of Christmas Eve. Grandma and Grandpa even joined in! Wishing them the very best in 2015!
You may recognize Brie from a post earlier this week. I was lucky enough to meet her two young boys for a quick mini session at Lake Chollas (one of my secret hidden lakes in San Diego). We played around near the water and went for a quick walk. Her boys are full of life and energy - similar to their mother! Brie is absolutely the sweetest and I look forward to photographing her more in the upcoming month as she continues to fight through these tough phases of her life.
p.s. Have I mentioned she's got the head wrap bow down to a science? And they always seem to be color coordinated with her daily outfit. I've known Raunette as a design client since - oh, sometime around 2008 I'd have to say. I couldn't be happier when we started chatting about taking family photos this year. Besides being a good looking crew to photograph - I loved that they incorporated a few other members of the family that were close to them to the photo session. It was a nice break from the typical "parents + children" shoot photographers are usually asked this time of year. Happy Holidays Vaughn Family!
Say "Hello" to the Rojas Family! Rick and Crystal must be doing something right because their 3 little ones were the best during our photo shoot! Their recent addition to the family, Keilani, is absolutely adorable (she too was so put together!) Wishing this family the best for the upcoming holidays! x-o-x-o
I met Bobbi and her adorable little girl while shopping at wholesale flowers over the summer. It was one of those days where I believe we were "just meant" to connect. As she sifted through some orchid arrangements, my mother and I began to chat with her. Before you knew it she offered to do the flower arrangements for my wedding and I was overjoyed with the idea of taking family portraits for her. We've met several times over coffee and words can't describe how serene Bobbi and her daughter are (well Bobbi, might say differently since I only get them in small doses).
Thanks for such a playful photo shoot on the beach! Much love - Amy I was so excited to see this couple in front of the camera again. It was their one year anniversary from their wedding and what perfect timing to do holiday portraits. If you would have know Eric on our first photo shoot years ago, you wouldn't have recognized him this time around. The two of them are just so damn cute together. They worked it like a GAP commercial photo shoot - well, until the NFL jersey's came on and then that's a different story!
Wishing the two of you lots of love and happiness this holiday season! Cheers - Amy In the year 2014, having a blended family isn't uncommon. And while this family technically falls into that category, they are so far beyond any cookie-cutter label that our society could give them. Most might need a diagram more complex than the NYC subways to follow their family tree, but the end result is a family full of smiles.
Over the course of several years, there's been 3 marriages, 4 children, tears, laughs, and a lot of love. Sheri actually used the phrase "…my framibly" during the shoot which seemed to suit this unique group. Her son Taylor has been traveling to LA for some acting experience - you'll see a few headshots of him below. He's been seen in a number of shows already aired and I'm confident this little man is going to go the distance. Jacob, the oldest below, is probably headed off to college this week - which indicates this blog is WAY overdue. Nothing crazy, just a few images captured at this party earlier this summer. Loving the green tones in these family photos.
I had a great little getaway to the San Jose area a few weeks ago. It was extremely relaxing and peaceful (quite the opposite from my normal fast paced day to day routine). I enjoyed three great photoshoots while there. Below are two of them - one in a near by local park and the other at the San Jose Japanese Friendship Garden. I hope to make these trips up north a yearly adventure.
I was so excited to meet up with this little family last week at the Mission Trails Regional Park! I ALMOST had as much excitement and energy as Ben did. Lana and Mary have been together for several years living here in San Diego and little Ben had his 3rd Birthday not to long ago. Mission Trails is a place they visit often, in fact they celebrated Ben's 3rd birthday down by the river. We had a blast skipping around on the trails and playing by the waters edge for a few hours. I think it was safe to say, Ben was exhausted (and I was too) after our fun little adventure. I hope the family loves these photographs as much as I do! Best to all three of you.
I met this family back in June when Cindi and Richard tied the knot. It's been great getting to know them over the past year! Last month we took a stroll through Balboa Park where we captured a handful of candids and several more formal portraits. I heard they have a little one on the way too! How exciting!
From the horse, to the dog, to the cat, and fish (cat & fish not pictured of course) - there's enough love for everyone in this family. We had a great time taking photos this past weekend. This family and atmosphere gave me a reminder of how back home feels in Pennsylvania.
November is here and Odin is ready! So many cute little ones to photograph these days. Snapped a few family photos in between Odin enjoying his cookies and a sling shot.
Aren't these two little ladies the cuties thing ever? We had so much fun playing in the park. Hope everyone is enjoying the fall weather.
Meet Sandee & Sheri!
Hear more about their story in an upcoming book titled...The Trailer of Love: Loving What Is. The story of a blended lesbian family, second (and third) chances and a diagnosis. Almost 7 years ago to this day, I hit the road to California. I had nothing but a car packed full of "stuff", roughly $1000 from waitress tips and my camera gear close by. Matt and Angela had responded to my first online wedding ad - their small wedding in Laguna Hills was the only certain thing waiting for me on the west coast. Not an apartment, not a salary job, not a family or friend to greet me - just their wedding and whatever was to follow. Since their wedding day, they've been traveling the world with their missionary work. Meeting up with them 7 years later on the same beach, not only gave me goosebumps but made me realize how far I've come with my career as a photographer here in San Diego. Their wedding day was for certain the day that launched my portfolio as a working photographer. Below are a few family portraits including their 3 little adorable girls. Patty and Carlos are such a fun couple to work with and we had a beautiful day playing Balboa Park. They've been married a few years now but they were simply looking for some fresh fun photographs of themselves (and their pups). |
